Veeam is a backup and recovery software that can be used to backup and restore data from a wide variety of sources, including on-premises storage systems, cloud storage, and more. However, while Veeam can be used to backup data to cloud storage, it cannot be used to backup directly to Amazon S3 buckets.
There are a few reasons why Veeam cannot backup directly to Amazon S3 buckets:
- Veeam requires a Veeam Cloud Connect Service Provider to backup directly to the cloud.
- Veeam Cloud Connect Service Provider doesn’t support Amazon S3 as a destination, it supports other cloud providers like Microsoft Azure, IBM Cloud and AWS but not S3 specifically.
- Veeam also requires a Veeam Backup & Replication Server to be installed on-premises, which acts as an intermediary between the source data and the cloud storage.
- Veeam uses its own proprietary format for backups, and Amazon S3 does not support this format natively.
However, there are other ways to backup data to Amazon S3, such as using the Amazon S3 Backup software or the Amazon S3 command-line interface, or using other third-party backup solutions that support Amazon S3 as a destination.
It’s also important to note that while Veeam is a powerful backup and recovery solution, it is not the only option available, and there are other backup solutions that can be used to backup data to Amazon S3.
